Tosser Becomes Lead (Co2)
(IAABO Manual pg. 39 Diagram)
Officials need to be alert during the opening toss and be ready for any unusual situations that may occur.  In most games, after the toss is completed, the non-tossing official will move toward the end line of the team that secured the ball and become the Lead official.  The tossing official will move into the frontcourt and assume the Trail position.

However, officials also need to be prepared for situations when the non-tossing official may need to become the Trail after the toss. The non-tossing official must be prepared to move in either direction to ensure we have proper on-ball coverage. At times, the non-tossing official will move in the direction of the tapped ball and find a team may have secured the ball in their backcourt. In those cases, the non-tossing official will stay with the ball handler and become the Trail official. The tossing official should recognize this situation and become the Lead official along the end line.
