IAABO Play Book+
7.5.7G Throw-in Spot
This video was developed by IAABO to show the case book in a visual format and help officials learn the rules by seeing them applied.

You, the viewer, can decide how to utilize the video to gain a better understanding of the rules(s) and concepts.

For individuals who want to understand the play situation, the clip contains a title page, case book page, and a "Key Concepts" page that outlines each play situation and the pertinent rules that apply.

Each page will stay on the screen for three seconds.  You can "pause" the video on any page to allow the necessary time to read the information.

If you wish to go directly to the video clip, simply move the cursor to the nine-second mark of the clip and watch the play.  Can you determine the correct ruling?

The clip will play a second time. This time, the clip will provide a “Play Analysis” and outline the correct ruling and key concepts that apply.

We hope that you enjoy this educational tool and that it enhances your understanding of the rules.

Lead in Transition (Co2, Co3)
(IAABO Manual Diagram pg. 25, 94)
Officials have a real fear of getting “beat” in transition coverage as the new Lead official.  For some officials, they are so concerned with this possibility, they often “bail out” as the Trail official while the ball is in flight on perimeter jump shots.  Officials need to embrace the fact that they will get beat and learn effective strategies to find an open look, even when trailing the play. If it is not possible to be ahead of the play, the Lead official should attempt to get an “open look” by making the position-adjustments that are needed to see between the offensive and defensive players on contested plays to the basket in transition. This visual depicts two examples of effective position-adjustments that Lead officials can use to get in proper position to rule on this type of play.
