IAABO Play Book+
CB 7.1.1B Player regains inbound status to recover ball
(This clip does not contain audio)
This video was developed by IAABO to show the case book in a visual format and help officials learn the rules by seeing them applied.

You, the viewer, can decide how to utilize the video to gain a better understanding of the rules(s) and concepts.

For individuals who want to understand the play situation, the clip contains a title page, case book page, and a "Key Concepts" page that outlines each play situation and the pertinent rules that apply.

Each page will stay on the screen for three seconds.  The viewer can "pause" the video on any page to allow the necessary time to read the information.

If the viewer wishes to go directly to the video clip, simply move the cursor to the nine-second mark of the clip and watch the play.  Can you determine the correct ruling?

The clip will play a second time. This time, the clip will provide a “Play Analysis” and outline the correct ruling and key concepts that apply.

We hope that you will enjoy this educational tool and that it enhances your understanding of the rules.

Rebound Coverage (Co2)
(IAABO Manual pg. 22. Section 9-g, pg. 44 Diagram)
During a try for goal, the Trail must read the situation and make effective position adjustments to ensure good court coverage.  If the try originates from the Trail’s PCA, their first priority is to “stay with the shooter.” Once the Trail sees the shooter back to the floor they must turn their attention to rebound coverage.

If the Trail “worked the arc” to get an angle on the try, they must “wrap back” to the sideline and apply the close-down mechanic (by moving toward the end line) to improve rebound coverage. (IAABO manual p. 22, 9. g)

If the try originates from the Lead’s PCA, they should remain focused on the shooter until the shooter returns to the floor and then turn their attention to rebound coverage.

The Lead should have depth off the end line, if possible. f. If in the closed-down (B position) when a try is attempted the Lead should position-adjust toward the sideline to increase their field of vision.

Both the Trail and Lead must focus on the competitive match-ups on their respective sides of the basket line.  If officials in Crew of 2 follow these guidelines, they will be more effective in their court coverage on perimeter tries and rebounding.
